I saw a picture of a larger version of this quilt in one of my favorite machine quilting books, Heirloom Machine Quilting, by Harriet Hargrave. There wasn't a pattern, so I meticulously measured each element in the photo and created a scale design to recreate it. Before I had the opportunity to do the full-size quilt, a baby shower for my good friend, Michelle, came along. So I made this smaller version for baby Ciaran Jack to enjoy.
Save those scraps! Even the teeniest, tiniest scraps can be used in making a confetti quilt. I have several ziplock bags that I collect similar colors in, so they are easier to use later. This Animal Alphabet is a Laura Heine pattern. I discovered it when I visited her quilt shop in Billings, Montana, with my mom, while on vacation., and immediately fell in love with it. So, when my daughter was pregnant for my first grandbaby, my mom and I decided to make this quilt for her as a gift. Mom did all the hard work--cutting out all those little applique pieces and placing them on the quilt top. I just got to have fun machine quilting it. This quilt now hangs above baby Caleb's crib. Just thought I would post the quilt label that I made for the baby quilt I just finished. It includes a poem that I wrote for little Chloe.
